The GWC Project is a collaborative effort between local artists and business owners. Together, we build installations in shop windows with upcycled elements rerouted from the waste stream, creating a pop-up gallery walk atmosphere. Documented from planning to building to debut, this teamwork further supports our community's united effort for conscious, even creative, waste diversion. GWC is setup in neighbourhood shopping districts, piloted by Old Strathcona & followed by Mercer Warehouse. The project demonstrates reclaimed materials' form and function, while increasing awareness of reuse opportunities, local businesses, and artists. GWC is a synergistic opportunity to rethink waste, from both a personal and entrepreneurial angle.
