Since 2006 we have been running horse drawn sleigh rides down Candy Cane Lane. This brought a feeling of nostalgia to our humble street and has grown into a much anticipated event for hundreds of hearty Edmontonians. Braving the sometimes inclement weather to sit on a horse drawn hay bale covered wagon and sing carols during a one hour ride has become so popular we found ways to streamline bookings with advance purchase. This has been and will continue to be a 100% volunteer effort, with revenues going to feed the horses and, with what little is left, to purchase additional lights for residents who wish to brighten up thier front yards for the season. We do however need volunteers to help load sleighs, assist with traffic flow and generally help with crowd management. Our sleigh rides run from 6:30 to 8:30 on weekends starting December 6 for the 2013 season. Full details if you click on the link Book a Sleigh Ride at http://candycanelane.ca. If you would like to volunteer please email us (email@example.com) with a subject line "I would like to volunteer for the sleighrides" This is a great way to get your elf on for the Christmas Season!
Some of you have already been out on Candy Cane Lane helping decorate the big trees with Shaw, Thank you very much we decorated at least 15 large trees!!!!
We are now organizing the sleigh rides for this year ( we are almost sold out!), and we need your help. In total, we need about 65 volunteers over the month of December.
Below are the dates that we require volunteers. Please let us know the day that you can assist or if you are able to assist at all.
Onwe will have a run!
, on all of the above listed nights except when we will be offering an additional run at .
and we will be finished at around . Respectively, on will will request that volunteers show up before . Dinner will be provided. Let us know if you plan on bringing your children so we can help accommodate.
Of note, last year the sleigh rides generated enough revenue to purchase ~$3500 in Christmas lights that were donated to residents who live on the lane. We also purchased mascot costumes and have fixed our websites. We are now broke and ready to make more money for next year so Candy Cane Lane can continue to grow.
Please respond as soon as possible as I know I have begun this volunteer drive too late!!
Seasons Greetings from the volunteers of Candy Cane Lane.2015 Update.
