Shout out to the greater #yeg #volunteer community.#Christmas is coming and we need your help! This year we wish to start the season on December 6 however #Edmonton's Food Bank has indicated they lack the volunteer base to move food into trucks if we open this early. This is the message we received from the Food Bank.
Candy Cane Lane 2013 is scheduled to open on Friday, December 6. Edmonton’s Food Bank is grateful for the support we receive from the people who donate non-perishable food items as they walk or drive down the lane to enjoy the lights. Special thanks to all residents who decorate - you have a special place in our hearts for all that you do.
This year, due to the volume of events being held, our regular volunteers are being stretched thin during first week of December. Edmonton’s Food Bank requests some additional support from community members to come down to the lane and help with loading the donated food into a truck.
Three to four people are needed each night for 30-45 minutes. We meet at the south end of the lane on 92 Avenue by the first set of green bins (watch for the Food Bank truck) and work our way down. Please dress for the weather.
Start times are as follows:
December 6 and 7: 10:30pm
December 8 to 12: 10:00pm
Please contact Tamisan Bencz-Knight at Edmonton’s Food Bank to sign up at 780.425.2133. We like to ensure we know who will be joining us! Feel free to sign up for one or more nights.
Additional nights between December 13 to January 1, 2014 are also available.
