On Saturday, August 31st, 2013, Edmontonians enjoyed a lovely evening on the unique rooftop of your downtown Vinci Park 103 parkade. With the incredible support from the community, we were thrilled with the collaborative event with more than 400 attendees and raising lots of money in support of Boyle Street Community Services’ Downtown Proud.

The evening featured the classic film Grease, DJ Thomas ScottE-Town SalsaSugar Swing Dance ClubFat Franks, and Cookie Love. Our sincerest appreciation to the amazing volunteer team and, last but not least, to YOU for supporting Blink: Parkade Party!

Thanks again for helping us realize a different use for this urban space. The curious Parkade Party story and how this Blink team came together was born from a simple Make Something Edmonton post and a serendipitous reunion. We sincerely appreciate all the positive and constructive feedback received about the party. Should you decide you’d like to thrown your very own version of a Parkade Party, we are happy to provide advice to help make it happen.

Here are our blog posts about the event:

What are we up to next? Don’t Blink – you might just miss it!

The Rooftop Parkade Patio is an Awesome fundraiser for the amazing work at Boyle Street Community Services. The collaborative event invites you to re-imagine your urban spaces and, in this case, the ambiance of a parkade rooftop. A traditionally one-dimensional parkade could be so much more than just spaces for automobiles - instead consider them places for people and patios!

We can not even articulate how much we appreciate the support thus far. The patio is just about ready to go! With one crucial component missing: a parkade.

We need your help! If you have a connection to a downtown Edmonton parkade with a fantastic rooftop space, we would love to discuss this community building fundraiser with you. Feel free to contact us at - we look forward to hearing from you!

Collaborators on this Project

  • We are delighted to announce that the Parkade Party is underway! With your incredible community support and encouragement, we are excited to be collaborating with a fantastic team to bring this parkade to life. Save the date: August 31st from 600pm – 1100pm. Don’t Blink! Details to follow.
  • We know you’re hungry for more details about the upcoming Parkade Party, and we’re happy to share more with you today!

    WHAT: Blink: Parkade Party!

    WHERE: Vinci Park 103 (10040 103 Street)

    WHEN: Saturday, August 31, 2013 from 6-11pm

The main event that evening will commence at sundown (around 9pm) – an outdoor screening of the iconic 50s musical, Grease! You may have seen the John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John vehicle many times before, but never like this – on a rooftop parkade in downtown Edmonton! To get you in the mood, we’ve also partnered with Sugar Swing Dance Club, Edmonton’s premiere swing dance company that promotes a fun learning environment for all ages! Sugar Swing representatives will be on hand prior to the movie to teach Grease-inspired dance moves. Ever wanted to “Go Grease Lighting” like the T-Birds, or “Hand Jive” with the best of them? Now’s your chance! So wear your dancing shoes, bring your lawn chair and cozy up for a movie classic where you’ve never seen it before! Not to mention, Fat Franks and Cookie Love will be serving up your tasty favorites.

Keep your eyes open - we've got a few more exciting announcements coming your way! Visit Blink for more details.

  • Curious how this Awesome Party is going to change a traditionally one-dimensional parkade? We have some fantastic local designers working with us to utilize a unique vantage point and re-imagine this urban gem.

We are excited to partner with Media Architecture Design Edmonton (MADE) to integrate a re-deployable #makescape system of grass tiles onto a parkade rooftop. The grass tiles provide a unique picnic park(ade!) presence amongst the concrete asphalt jungle. #makescape is an urban intervention concept originated in Centennial Plaza as a part of a Designing Downtown project. Look out for these mobile features as they continue to be deployed throughout other events and featured in #makescape two on October 5, 2013. Relax, take a seat, and enjoy the screen from the green!

In addition, the exploratory competition to locally re-design barricades was successfully completed earlier this week. With 8 prototype finalists were displayed at the 124th Street Market and Fringe Festival, Chris vander Hoek was the winner of the judge’s competition for his Barrique design while Chris Brodt and Mark Lafond won the people’s choice for Zumorph. We are thrilled to feature a some of these amazing pieces in true Parkade Party form by re-imagining our urban awesome!

Now that the stage is set – just wait until you hear the spicy entertainment we’re announcing next! Stay tuned.
