Mad Knitter Tea Party

Calling all knitters/crocheters from across the city for an afternoon tea party with the end result of yarn-bombing the back fence of Capital Care McConnell Place North (secure Alzheimer's Care Residence). We'll need flowers of all sorts and colours (especially marigolds) and wee bees that will all be attached to the fence that surrounds the residents garden area. Come and go as you please... make flowers... drop off flowers... attach flowers...help us make a wee spot in the city a little prettier for the residents and all those who walk by.

Of course, the residents who are able will also be invited to the tea party and assisting with the installation.

Knitting evokes sitting around with friends enjoying a nice cuppa... we hope with our Mad Knitter Tea Party, this will bring new friends together all the while sharing our time and talents for the residents.

  • Did you know?

Did you know that the wee 'forget-me-not' flower is the flower for Alzheimer's? So along with an assortment of colourful flowers and Edmonton's designated flower, the marigold... do consider making us forget-me-nots.

Should you not be able to come play with us on June 4... flowers may be delivered to McConnell Place, Monday to Friday from 9-4.
  • Planning

Planning our Mad Knitter Tea Party for our #100in1Day project is coming along smoothly... flowers are being made while CapitalCare McConnell Place is prepping their yard and increasing their tea stash.
It'll be a grand day for the residence... if you're able to help with the install, please enter the garden on the east gate of the bldg near the parking lot. If you are able, please bring treats (cookies/squares) to share.

Because this is a home... we ask that you treat the residents with care and respect... and no falling for their tricks to take them to their fav pub in Ireland.

  • Almost there!

We are almost there for our special tea party! Special Forget-me-not corsages are being made for the residents. Cookies are baking... sorry, no cucumber sandwiches for this tea party.Tea's are being gathered. Borealis Renaissance Consort group will be performing while we pretty up the back fence.

    Some notes for consideration:

    • Entrance to the back garden is by the parking lot on the east end of the building. There will be signs to guide you.
    • You will be asked to register when you arrive.
    • If you are bringing flowers, proceed to the large gazebo where you will then be given yarn-bombing directions.
    • Residents (wearing wee corsages) and their families will be attendance. Feel free to chat away... just don't take the residents for a walk off the premises.
    • If it is raining, we will still work on the fence but the tea party activities will be in the Centre's great room.
    • As this is home for the 36 residents, we ask that you treat it with respect and honour. McConnell Place staff will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

While we sort of have a plan for the fence... the end result will be totally up to all our helpers. Can't wait to meet all of you and see what we end up creating for the residents as well as all those who'll walk by!
